Warrnambool Calisthenics Club Inc. is a welcoming, community-driven dance and performing arts club located in Warrnambool, Victoria. For over 60 years, our club has offered a unique blend of dance, gymnastics, ballet technique, flexibility training and stage performance through the uniquely Australian sport of calisthenics.
Run by a dedicated voluntary committee, our club supports performers from ages 3 to 40+, offering both competitive and recreational pathways. In 2025, we proudly had 95 active pupils, all training in the Function Hall at St Pius Primary School.
From first-time Tinies to seasoned Masters, every member is encouraged to grow in confidence, develop new skills and experience the joy of performing as part of a supportive team.
Our journey began in 1963 when Joyce Hayward introduced the Bagot-Stack “League of Health and Beauty” movement exercises to a group of local girls. A year later, she incorporated calisthenic technique from the Victorian Calisthenic Association and our club was born.
From the very first class of 12 students, Warrnambool Calisthenics Club Inc. grew quickly. With teachers Joyce Hayward, Val Kelly and Lyn Goyen, the club competed for the first time in Geelong in 1965, proudly receiving five awards.
Over the decades, our performers have competed in eisteddfods and competitions across Warrnambool, Ballarat, Geelong, Mt Gambier, Horsham, Colac and Melbourne. In 1984, we formally became incorporated and adopted the name Warrnambool Calisthenics Club Inc.
Milestones continued as we expanded:
2008: Masters recreational class launched
2016: Recreational Team for children aged 7–13 began
2024: Masters proudly became a competitive team
Today, our club offers classes from Tinies through to Masters, staying true to our long-standing values of community, teamwork and performance.
